K. K. Shetty (born 18 April 1901, date of death unknown) was an Indian independence activistjournalist and a Member of Parliament who represented the Mangalore Constituency in the 5th Lok Sabha. He was a member ofIndian National Congress.[1]

Biography[edit]

K. K. Shetty was born in a Tulu speaking Bunt family of landlords. He completed his early education at Christian High School, Udupi and Tilak Vidyalaya, Udupi. He completed his higher education from Visva-Bharati University,Santiniketan. Later he participated in the Indian Independence Movement and was sent to 18 months imprisonment by the then British Raj Government on charges of Sedition. After India gained its Independence, Kanthappa Shetty turned to politics and served as the Vice-President of Mysore Legislative Council from 1956–70; Deputy Chairman, Mysore Legislative Counci,from 1956–58; and Chairman, Mysore Legislative Council, from 1968–71 and finally as Member of Parliament from the Mangalore Constituency. Apart from being a politician, he also was a journalist who edited and published Kannada weeklies such as 'Navayuga', 'Sarvodaya' and 'Rashtra Jyothi'.
