    BIOGRAPHY
Poojya Guruji Sri Swami Atmananda Saraswati ji is the founder of International Vedanta Mission and Vedanta Ashram, Indore. He is dedicated heart & soul to share the amazing knowledge of Vedanta to one & all. He sincerely believes that it is the knowledge of the truth of oneself alone makes a person truly free. It is the deep-rooted sense of limitation and insecurity which is at the root of all the problems of an individual and subsequently his work field, relationships, society and the world at large. Once a person takes oneself to be a limited individual, then starts a journey of endless seeking. Individuality is a product of our minds, and thus it slowly crystallizes in due course of time. It is basically a baseless erroneous conclusion about ourself and therefore can be effaced only by right knowledge. That is what Vedanta is. A heritage of the valid and time-tested knowledge about our self. This knowledge is worthy to be shared with one & all, for the holistic well-being of not only every individual, but rather the world at large. Sharing this knowledge is what inspires Swami Atmananda ji.

Inspired with the spirit of the prayer that 'May all be happy', he keeps trying the old & new methods to share this knowledge with one & all. In the traditional methods, comprise his Gyana Yagnas (Week-long discourse series), Sadhana Shivirs (5-7 days in-house package of studies and meditation) etc, and the modern formats comprise of Lectures, Seminars & Workshops. Amongst his disciples are not only Hindus but even Moslems, Christians and Sikhs. Scientists, scholars, doctors, engineers all come to him to get the insight into the wisdom of Vedanta. He has conducted his discourses in many parts of India and even abroad. He has his centers in UK, Canada, Russia, Australia etc. He speaks in Hindi and English. He has been invited by Management Associations as a Guest Speakers on various occasions, most noteworthy being the Ahmedabad Management Association. His specially designed package of 'Holistic Living' was a great hit and was practised very successfully even in China. Not keeping our rural areas aside, Poojya Guruji has been visiting the villages and other interior rural areas to share his knowledge.

In his Purvashram (life before Sanyas), he was born in the family of a doctor in the Indian Army. In fact three generations of his family served in the Army to protect the boundaries of our country. He has certainly been an odd-man out, but he says that I basically compliment the job of my ancestors, where instead of protecting the physical boundaries of the country, I have preferred to dedicate myself to what the country really stands for. Poojya Swamiji was earlier a science graduate. He worked for sometime, but soon discovered that he is not meant for such a work. While in College itself most of the children in the family were made to take mantra diksha from Sankaracharya of Jyotirmath and Dwarka, Sri Swami Swaroopanandaji Maharaj. While he diligently continued his regular japa he says that he did not really know what these sadhana were all about, and it was all a ritual meant for affirming his faith in the unknown. It certainly made him inclined to know more about the spiritual dimension of life. Later he got a chance to join Sandeepany Sadhanalaya of Swami Chinmayanandaji at Mumbai, where his real studies of Vedanta began. After the three years course he was sent as an Acharya of Sandeepany Himalayas at Sidhbari (HP), where he conducted two similar courses on Vedanta, and after his Sanyas Deeksha, he left his Guru's Ashram and toured the country like an ascetic, learning higher texts from various other masters.

In 1992 he decided to have his own organization aptly called as the Vedanta Mission, which has been later named as the 'International Vedanta Mission' because of its spreading wings. He has a small, well-equipped Gurukula for teaching Advaita Vedanta at Indore, called Vedanta Ashram, which was established in 1995. Swamiji is very computer & net savvy, and publishes possibly the first e-magazine of Vedanta the 'Vedanta Sandesh' from last fifteen years. He has his presence on various social forums & sites. His web-site (http:\/\/www.vmission.org.in) which has been designed, created and is managed in-house at his Ashram by the Ashram Mahatmas themself. It is a nice & comprehensive website. We have hundreds of hours of his talks freely available on the net for free download by anyone. He offers online courses for learning Vedanta too. He is ever on the move with his 'never-say-die' spirit thinking of newer ways & means, enthusiastically, creatively and lovingly sharing this knowledge of Vedanta with one & all.
