E. Ahamed (born 29 April 1938) is the former Minister of State for External Affairs of India. He represents the Malappuram Lok Sabha constituency of Kerala and is the National President of the Indian Union Muslim League(IUML).

Mr. E. Ahamed graduated from Govt. Brennen College in Tellicherry, Kerala and later obtained a law degree from the Government Law College in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.
He was elected to the Kerala Legislative Assembly in 1967, 1977, 1980, 1982 and 1987. From 1982 to 1987, he served as Cabinet Minister for Industries, Government of Kerala.
From 1971 to 1977, Mr. Ahamed was the Founding Chairman of the Kerala State Rural Development Board. From 1979 to 1980 he was the Executive Chairman of the Kerala State Small Scale Industries Development Corporation. From 1981 to 1983 he was the Chairman of the Municipal Council in Kannur, Kerala.
He was elected to the Lok Sabha in 1991, 1996, 1998, 1999, 2004 and 2009. During 2004 -2009, he served as the Minister of State for External Affairs. From April 2009 to January 2011, he was Minister of State for Railways. He assumed charge again as Minister of State of External Affairs on 24 January 2011. Mr. Ahamed also held the additional charge of the Ministry of Human Resource Development from July 2011 to October 2012.
Mr. Ahamed is currently the National President of the Indian Union Muslim League. During his tenure in the Parliament, he has been a member of several parliamentary committees including External Affairs, Railways, Civil Aviation and Tourism, Public Undertakings, Science and Technology, Environment and Forests. Mr. Ahamed was also the Chairman of the Government Assurance Committee. Nominated by the Government of India as Co-Chairman for the High Level Monitoring Mechanism (HLMM) between India and Qatar in November 2011.
Mr. Ahamed is widely traveled and has represented India in the United Nations 10 times between 1991 and 2014. In 1984, he was sent to GCC countries as an Emissary of the then Prime Minister late Mrs. Indira Gandhi. Born on 29 April 1938, Mr. Ahamed has performed Hajj seven times - five times as Member of Government of India Haj Goodwill Delegation. He has also authored 4 books in English and Malayalam.
He was married to Late Mrs. Zuhara Ahamed. Mr. Ahamed has two sons and one daughter.
His hobbies include reading, writing and watching sports.

- Led Indian delegation to Colombo, Sri Lanka for 31st Session of SAARC Council of Ministers meeting on 27 February 2009.

- After the formation of UPA Government, India was invited for the first time to the Arab League Summit. Mr. Ahamed led the high-level Indian delegation to League of Arab States Summit at Algiers in 2005, Khartoum in 2006, Riyadh in 2007, Damascus in 2008 and Doha in 2009.
- Mr. Ahamed was able to persuade for India specific Amnesty in gulf countries – Oman, UAE, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia and this has helped thousands of workers who were illegal immigrants in these countries to regularize their stay or return home.
- On 9.12.2008 represented India in the United Nations Security Council to present its case before the International community in the wake of Mumbai terror attack (26/11) and successfully persuaded the international community to ban the extremist outfits in Pakistan unanimously.
- On 17.9.2004 visited Palestine and met H.E. Yasser Arafat as an emissary of Hon’ble Prime Minister. It was an historical visit when the Palestinian people were facing hardship and agony. India has given 15 million dollar, 15 specially made vehicles and medical assistance to the tune of 5 million dollar in two spells.
- Release of Mr. Naushad, whose eye was to be gorged out as ordered by the Court of Law in Saudi Arabia, was another milestone in the service of humanity rendered by Mr. Ahamed.
Hostage Crisis[edit]
In August–September 2004 three Indians were abducted by a group of militants in Iraq. Government of India constituted a Crisis Management Committee consisting of four Joint Secretaries of Ministry of External Affairs and the Committee was headed by Mr. Ahamed. With the timely and wisely intervention and constant touch with various authorities in and outside Iraq, Mr. Ahamed was able to release all the six hostages from the clutches of the militants unhurt and brought them back home safely. This was a landmark achievement which was appreciated by one and all in and outside the country.
Haj Quota[edit]
Till 2004, the total number of Hajees performed Haj through the Haj Committee of India was 72000. With the sincere efforts and persuasion with the Saudi authorities, Mr. Ahamed has been able to increase the quota from 72000 to 170000 put together.
